New Year brings elevated commitment to the South West
Cornish Mutual has been putting farmers and the wider farming community across the South West at the heart of all it does since 1903. And the start of 2025 takes this to a new level.
Bringing community together
Cornish Mutual has always recognised the value of bringing community together and relishes the opportunity to meet with so many from across the region at the summer shows.
Reinforcing its strong presence at the region’s landmark agricultural events, Cornish Mutual has just become headline sponsor of the Devon County Show; a county containing many of its Members.
Cornish Mutual Head of Brand and Sustainability Juliet Allister commented: “We are thrilled to increase our support for this major event in Devon, underlining our recognition of farmers’ vital contribution to our region. It forms another part of the many ways we work with farmers throughout the year, helping them thrive in a demanding environment.”
But winter is also an important time for bringing farmers together – in fact, at this dreary time of year it’s almost more important to get off the farm and meet with others. That’s why Cornish Mutual is once again supporting a diverse range of farming events over the coming weeks.
Collaborating with partners
Throughout January and February, the farming insurance experts are offering a series of workshops in partnership with Duchy College looking at how to make best use of the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI).
Facilitated by industry specialists from across the South West, the ‘Understanding SFI’ workshops cover the important areas of nutrient management planning, integrated pest management, hedgerow management and soil management planning. Run twice during January, each workshop is being repeated at Duchy College’s Rosewarne campus in February.
Also in February, it’s conference time with two events bookending the month. Rootstock is at the beginning in Devon, with a focus on regenerative farming practices, while the month ends with the Cornwall Food & Farming Group’s event, ‘Food Security: Resilience in a changing world’. Together they cover the latest from farm to fork.
Supporting education
As important as spending time off the farm is bringing farmers together on farm and helping them help each other. Farmers love to see and learn from what other farmers are doing.
Cornish Mutual’s series of farm walks and events offers farmers the opportunity to visit other farming businesses, share advice and enjoy socialising together. With health and safety a priority on farm, Cornish Mutual’s comprehensive programme of first aid courses and health & safety training also continues this year, along with its specialist Health and Safety Service.
And for those seeking inspiration and advice at any time of day or night, the popular Farming Focus™ podcast is now in its fourth series, featuring leading farmers and industry experts exploring the latest on what matters most.
Long-term commitment
So, in this new year, Cornish Mutual remains as committed as ever to protecting the farming community and promoting its importance. A mutual insurer offering so much more than insurance.
