When Jo Murray moved back to Somerset with her young family, she started two very different businesses that took her in entirely new directions.
Free Range offers a bespoke accounting and financial control solution for small and medium sized businesses in the South West of England. As the name ‘Free Range’ suggests, the company offers an entirely flexible and adaptable service which can be shaped to each client’s individual needs.
In contrast, Jo also runs Collett Park Café in the heart of Shepton Mallet’s main park, serving everything from tea and coffee to lunch and warming soups from a welcoming environment which offers the perfect pit stop for parents and their little ones.
Cornish Mutual came into Jo’s life when she visited the Royal Cornwall Show and Jo’s father introduced her to the South West’s leading rural insurer.
Jo picks up the story: “Both of my businesses have very different insurance needs, and I simply didn’t have the time to shop around to find who would be best to help me. When I was at the Royal Cornwall Show with my father, he introduced me to Cornish Mutual, and after having a conversation with the team, I decided to use them for both businesses, as well as to provide my house and car insurance. It’s very reassuring to know that everything is covered by a local company, and that my businesses are in safe hands should anything go wrong.
“Cornish Mutual allowed me to tailor my insurance to cover exactly what I needed, and it was great to be dealing with friendly staff who put you at ease. Sue, my local representative, will pop in for a cup of tea now and then; she just understands me and the businesses and I can trust her.”
Free Range has continued to grow, which has allowed Jo to employ more staff at the café to help her manage the day to day jobs.
“It’s great that both businesses are growing, and although the café is seasonal, I need someone running the day-to-day ordering and stock management,” Jo added.
Sue Turner, a member of the field force team at Cornish Mutual, deals directly with Jo, and like all the company’s field force team, she regularly visits Jo to catch up.
Sue said: “Watching Jo drive her two very different growing businesses forward alongside looking after her young family is amazing. Businesses in the South West can be very diverse, so we’re used to adapting to different requirements. With Jo we provide insurance cover for everything from computers and office equipment at Free Range to the freezers and outside benches at the Collett Park café.
“We first met Jo through her father, who have provided farm insurance to for many years. Since then we have been able to help Jo with everything she has needed, creating tailored plans for both of the businesses, as well as building a great relationship.”
Jo added: “Sue bends over backwards to make sure everything is adequately covered and looked after, and we really appreciate her hard work.”
